How the combined ticket works

There's no single state-issued ticket covering both. Combo packages pair two separate admissions in one booking, often with a timed slot at each site. The benefit is logistical more than financial.

  • One booking, two separate QR codes.
  • Time slots already coordinated to leave room for the transfer.
  • Some packages include transport or a guide — check what's included before you buy.

The itinerary that works

  1. 1Leave Naples from Porta Nolana or Garibaldi on the Circumvesuviana towards Sorrento.
  2. 2Get off at Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri and give the site three hours, entering at opening.
  3. 3Eat near the Porta Marina entrance or grab something quick.
  4. 4Take the train back towards Naples and get off at Ercolano Scavi.
  5. 5Two hours at Herculaneum, with the House of the Deer and the beach chambers as priorities.
  6. 6Back in Naples by evening.

Don't reverse the order. Pompeii demands more energy and more daylight; arriving at 14:00 means seeing half of it.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Is there a single Pompeii–Herculaneum ticket?

There's a combined Vesuvian-sites ticket valid across several parks within a set number of days; reseller packages instead pair two admissions in one booking.

Are two hours really enough at Herculaneum after Pompeii?

Yes, if you arrive with a priority list. The site is compact and distances inside are short.

Is the train reliable?

The Circumvesuviana is frequent but can run late — leave a thirty-minute buffer between sites.

Better from Naples or Sorrento?

Both work; they're on the same line. From Sorrento the journey is about twenty minutes longer.

Can I add Vesuvius?

Not in one day. Pair Vesuvius with Herculaneum and keep Pompeii for another day.
